COMMON QUESTIONS
What People Are Asking Us
Are you unsure what is the right training method for you and your pet? Hopefully these frequently asked questions will give you the information that you need to better understand the world of pet training.
WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO PET TRAINING?
At Dog Speak, we always follow the science. In short, this means we follow the LIMA (least intrusive minimally aversive) training model. While you may find information on dominance theory, alpha dogs, and an emphasis on control, this has long been debunked and is based on poor science. We treat dogs like dogs, which means with calm, gentleness, compassion, and structure. Just like with human children, we want to ensure that our dogs are under low stress and understand what's being asked of them. We want to set them (and you!) up for success!

First and foremost, we want to ensure your dogs basic needs are being met: are they mentally and physically fulfilled? After we develop a fulfillment plan, we can develop behavioral modification and training plan to reverse, manage, or prevent unwanted behaviors. Finally, we always treat our humans like we treat our dogs: with dignity and respect. We will never shame or blame you for your dog's behavior. Instead, we will give you the tools and knowledge to make changes in your home to be successful.

IS MY PET TOO OLD TO BE TRAINED?
Can't teach an old dog new tricks? Absolutely not! In fact, studies have shown that it's incredibly beneficial to your aging dog to continue working the brain and learning new things. You may do Sudoku to prevent dementia; give your dog the same treatment!
WHICH OF YOUR SERVICES IS RIGHT FOR ME?
For many, our group classes may be the right choice. For others, you may need more personalized attention. If you don't see a group class that fits your needs, you're unsure what to choose, or you need help but don't want to commit to a full plan, reach out and I'll help you choose! My primary goal is to set you up for success, not bleed your pockets dry.
